Artificial Intelligence and NFTs Come Together in TR Lab x AI 2041 Collaboration
TR Lab’s collaboration with AI 2041 authors Stanley Qiufan Chen and Kai-Fu Lee is one of the first cross-medium projects between authors and artists representing AI and blockchain
HONG KONG — SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 — TR Lab, a platform for discovering and collecting NFT art, today announced a new NFT collaboration with award-winning authors Stanley Qiufan Chen and Kai-Fu Lee for the release of their book AI 2041: Ten Visions For Our Future (Currency, on-sale 9/14). The platform has also revealed the first five of several prominent digital artists to create NFT artwork inspired by the book, which centers on how AI will transform the world in the next twenty years.
NFTs, or non fungible tokens, have taken the online world by storm in 2021 and attracted the attention of artists, brands, and companies looking to explore new mediums on the blockchain for content creation and innovation. TR Lab’s latest NFT project aims to give Chen and Lee an innovative new way to engage with their fans and immerse them in the worlds of their novels.
The excitement around NFTs, along with the mainstream public’s newfound appreciation for artists bridging the gap between technology and art, inspired the AI 2041 x TR Lab collaboration — one of the first cross-medium projects between authors and artists representing two promising emerging technologies: AI and blockchain.
The newest release from award-winning science fiction author Stanley Qiufan Chen and New York Times bestselling author of AI Superpowers Kai-Fu Lee, AI 2041: Ten Visions For Our Future presents 10 gripping stories where readers are introduced to an array of eye-opening 2041 settings, from San Francisco to Tokyo. Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and investor and bestselling author Ray Dalio have already offered their stamp of approval.
To reflect the intertwinement of literature, art, and technology and its potential, TR Lab commissioned leading digital artists to create NFT works inspired by the book’s stories to further engage readers and immerse them in a futuristic world inspired by AI 2041, including:
● Alex Ness (NessGraphics), a digital artist known for his mastery of 3D animation, modeling, and design, has created visuals for award-winning artists’ tours and shows such as Lil Nas X, Travis Scott, Diplo and many more.
● Ash Thorp, a multidisciplinary artist whose work has been sold by Christie’s Auction House and featured in numerous feature films, such as Ender’s Game, Assassin’s Creed, and Ghost in the Shell.
● Brendan Dawes, a UK-based artist whose work has been printed on the International Space Station and featured at the MoMA.
● Joshua Davis (praystation), a technologist and artist specializing in algorithmic image-making whose work has been sold by Christie’s Auction House and featured in Art Blocks, a curated collection of NFTs from renowned artists.
● Refik Anadol, a media artist, director, and pioneer in the aesthetics of machine intelligence, whose immersive work has been featured in numerous exhibitions at museums and cultural institutions worldwide.
Additional artists participating in the project will be announced at a later date.
Stanley Qiufan Chen, co-author of AI 2041, remarked: “Storytelling is the best way to connect art, technology, and humanity and to shape the consensus of our future. I am very honored to trailblaze and experiment with blockchain technology and combine NFT art and our visions of the future. I believe technology will further blur the boundaries of different forms of creations and open up a new realm of unlimited imagination and creativity.”
“Our goal at TR Lab is to expand the definition of NFT art, and to support artists, authors, and creators as they pioneer new and unique interdisciplinary art forms. By combining the story-telling power of Chen and Lee with the creative vision of today’s leading digital artists, we aim to create a more immersive, multi-dimensional experience for fans of futuristic fiction. This is an exciting new frontier for cross-collaboration between digital art, literature and blockchain technology, and the highly-anticipated global debut of AI 2041 marks the ideal moment for this ground-breaking TR Lab initiative,” said Xin Li-Cohen, Chairwoman of TR Lab.
With an aim to empower the next generation of art by unlocking access to groundbreaking projects, TR Lab is melding the worlds of contemporary art and technology by giving art collectors verifiable proof of ownership powered by the blockchain and opening up opportunities for artists to explore new mediums and expand their audiences. The platform recently hosted the sale of internationally acclaimed artist Cai Guo-Qiang’s first NFT which sold for $2.5 million, making it the biggest NFT sale from a non-crypto-native artist.
